Photo about Aalst (city)
The train station of the old lovely historical town of Aalst, also known as Alost in French. (but locals call it Olsjt in their own dialect).
This is one of the oldest train stations of Belgium. It was inagurated on the 6th of July, 1856 by the Belgian king Leopold II.
120 years later, in 1975 the direction of the Belgian railways wanted to demolish the station as a part of so called "modernization" program. Luckily, because of continuous preassure from railway enthousisats and historians the station was saved. The station is being restored now.
