Académie de la Grande Chaumière
On this page:
The Académie de la Grande Chaumière is an art school in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, France. The school was founded in 1902 by the Swiss Martha Stettler, and Alice Dannenberg. They refused to teach the strict academic rules of painting of the École des Beaux-Arts. It opened the way to the "Art Indépendant". It was renamed Académie Charpentier in 1957. An attraction of this atelier was the fees, even lower than the Académie Julian. All that was provided was a model and warmth in the winter.
