Actinomycetaceae. a family of mold-like bacteria (Order Actinomycetales) that are nonmotile, filamentous, branching. Gram- positive, and mostly anaerobic forms. They are widely distributed in soils and bottom sediments of rivers and lakes. Many strains produce antibiotics (e.g., actinomycin ) and many are pathogenic (Actinomyces spp. and Streptomyces spp.).
