the Red Sea jack Alepes djedaba. The above species, together with Sillago sihama and S. commerson, two species that underwent population explosions in the early 1980s, are common in purse-seine landings. Nearly half of the trawl catches along the Levantine coast consist of Red Sea- introduced fish. The Red Sea lizardfish, Saurida mac- rolepsis, was first recorded from the Mediterranean in 1952 and has since spread in the entire eastern Mediterranean, from Albania to Libya.
