Iris Zulu Golden-Mole Amblysomus iris Thomas and Schwann, 1905 [Syn. A. hottentotus iris] In Greek mythology, Iris was the goddess of the rainbow and a personal messenger of the goddess Hera. In zoology, iris is usually applied to very colorful species, such as the Iris Lorikeet Psitteuteles iris, but this is not the case with the golden-mole. Thomas and Schwann's reasons for choosing this scientific name are not re- corded. The golden-mole comes from eastern South Africa.
