In the late 1890s Hunter was commissioned by the early Mayanist scholar Alfred Maudslay to provide drawings and watercolored illustrations of Maya monuments. Her illustrations appeared in Maudlay's pioneering archaeological and iconographic survey Biologia Centrali-Americana: Archaeology.
