  1. Jîn a.k.a. Jin, originally known as Tang, was a major state during the middle part of the Zhou dynasty, based near the center of what was then China, on the lands attributed to the legendary Xia dynasty: the southern part of modern Shanxi. Although it grew in power during the Spring and Autumn period, its aristocratic structure saw it break apart when the duke lost power to his nobles. In 453 BCE, Jin was split into three successor states: Han, Zhao and Wei. The Partition of Jin marks the end of the Spring and Autumn Period and the beginning of the Warring States period.

The geographic coordinates of this airport are 00°27′09″N 33°11′35″E / 0.45250°N 33.19306°E. Its rulers Li Keyong and Li Keyong's son Li Cunxu, of Shatuo extraction, claimed to be rightful subjects of the defunct Tang Dynasty in a struggle against the usurper state Later Liang. At the time of Tang's fall in 907, the Jin state constituted of most, but not all, of modern Shanxi, and eventually expanded to cover all of the territory north of the Yellow River. Eventually, in 923, Li Cunxu, claiming rightful succession to the Tang throne, declared himself emperor, transitioning his state to Later Tang which shortly after destroyed Later Liang.
