Definition of the noun age class

What does age class mean as a name of something?

noun

  1. people in the same age range

Explanation

Age Class a.k.a. The age-class descriptor is used for population models in which the number of animals in different age-classes is represented separately. For example, a population of rabbits might have 100 individuals in it, or which 50 are in their first year, 30 in their second year, and 20 in their third year. In an age-class model, this could be represented as:Age-class Number1 502 303 20So, 3 values are used to represent the state of the system, rather than just one in a simpler, lumped model of the system. In this example, each age-class is the same "width", i.e. 1 year. It is perfectly legitimate to make each age-class a different width.
