Ant Hill

Ant Hill is a hill on Antarctica, 1,310 metres high, rising steeply on the west side of the Skelton Glacier between Ant Hill Glacier and Dilemma Glacier. It was surveyed and named in 1957 by the New Zealand party of the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition, 1956–58. Ant Hill was named by geological members because of the prominent anticline in the bluff below the hill.

Ant Hill a.k.a. Ant-hill: An ant-hill is a pile of earth, sand, pine needles, or clay or a composite of these and other materials that build up at the entrances of the subterranean dwellings of ant colonies as they are excavated. A colony is built and maintained by legions of worker ant, who carry tiny bits of dirt or vegetation in their mandible and deposit them near the exit of the colony. They normally deposit the dirt or vegetation at the top of the hill to prevent it from sliding back into the colony.

Quotes about Ant Hill

Everyone has a heap,
Each heap has a peak,
Be it a mountain or an ant hill.
Priding on such heap one would die,
Each soul thus getting some respite.
