The alpine ski area and a portion of the real estate in the Village of Bear Valley has been owned by an investment partnership led by a Canadian company, Dundee Realty, since 2005.

Bear Valley is within the Stanislaus National Forest. Although inside Alpine County, Bear Valley Fire Department has contracted with California Department of Forestry, San Andreas, for dispatching.
