It is the former site of the Large Distillery, former home of Old Overholt whiskey. The distillery site was converted by the Noble J. Dick Corporation, also headquartered in Large, into a research facility for Westinghouse. The Pittsburgh Terminal Coal Company built a town there, to house the miners working in its coal mine.
