"Opfer" a.k.a. "The Sacrifice" is a 1986 Swedish film directed by Andrei Tarkovsky. Starring Erland Josephson, it centers on a middle-aged intellectual who attempts to bargain with God to stop an impending nuclear holocaust. The Sacrifice was Tarkovsky's third film as a Soviet expatriate, after Nostalghia and the documentary Voyage in Time, and was also his last, as he died shortly after its completion. Like 1972's Solaris, it won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival.

Disability, Insurance, and the Birth of the Social Entitlement State in Germany by Greg Eghigian

The divinity too has obligations.25Sacrifice, victimhood, and entitlement were therefore historically, ...
Extraordinary But True Stories from over Five Centuries of Harmony and Discord by Brian Levison
The whole was called Das Musikalisches Opfer and J S Bach had it engraved, and dedicated it to the king. It is worth recalling that the word Opfer means offering, in the sense of a special gift to an important person, rather than the current meaning of 'offer' as something that can be accepted or declined.

Music in the Third Reich (1996)
by Erik Levi
While Das Opfer is a less astringent work than Rosse, its use of 12-note procedures and its musical austerity should have aroused strong condemnation. Yet although the opera was only given four performances, critics of the period saw the work's austerity as being entirely appropriate to the moralistic ethos of the drama. Moreover, no allusion was made towards Zillig's use of compositional techniques that had been condemned as degenerate in the works of other composers. If Nazi ...
